Dentistry, Oral Health, and Nutrition
Dentistry is the prevention and treatment of oral disease, including diseases of the teeth and supporting structures and diseases of the soft tissues of the mouth. Oral health refers to the health of the teeth, gums, and the entire oral-facial system that allows us to smile, speak and chew.
A balanced and nutritious diet is good for your general and dental health. Healthy eating and oral health go hand in hand, for the most part. However, there are some outliers; however, it’s clear that nutrition directly impacts your teeth and gums. Specifically, poor nutrition may lead to tooth decay, cavities, and gum disease. Researchers have also linked oral diseases to diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and premature/low-weight births in some cases.
